ISO 50001

Certifying your Energy Management System to ISO 50001 with the Carbon Trust provides independent assurance from the world’s leading authority on energy and carbon management.

The purpose of the international standard ISO 50001 is to enable organisations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption.

International Organization for Standardization

ISO 50001 is an Energy Management System (EnMS) standard that outlines the best way to achieve the continual improvement of energy performance for your organisation. The standard helps your organisation meet energy objectives and targets and can form a major part of your commitment to carbon emission reduction.

An EnMS forms a framework for achieving best practice in energy management through the development of an energy policy, effective energy planning, establishing operational controls and processes for monitoring and reviewing performance. This makes it easier for organisations to integrate energy management into their day to day operations.

ISO 50001 can be utilised by large and small organisations whether public or private sector. It can be used by multinational organisations to establish a common methodology for managing energy and identifying areas for improvements at all sites. It is estimated by ISO that the standard could influence up to 60% of the worlds energy use.

ESOS Compliance

Holding certification to ISO 50001 from an accredited certification body, such as Carbon Trust Assurance, is one of the main compliance routes for ESOS and is an alternative to undertaking your ESOS Audits.

Where an ISO 50001 certified system covers all of your organisation (as at the ESOS qualification date) then this shall facilitate full compliance with ESOS provided the certification is still valid on the ESOS compliance date. Read more on this from our main website using the link below.
